Day Camp Volunteers Urgently Needed (11-15 July):  There is an urgent need for Scouts to support a Cub Scout Day Camp next week from 8:00am - 3:30pm at Rohr Park Gazebo R2. Specific needs are Wolf Den Leader, Webelos Den Leader, AOL Den Leader, a person to help with crafts, another person to help with woodworking, and Den Chiefs.  I know this is short notice and many of you are just getting back from Summer Camp, but it is a great opportunity to gain leadership experience and volunteer hours.  Contact Tonie Garza at alto2tonie@hotmail.com if you are able to help or have questions.

University of Scouting (6 August 2022):  University of Scouting courses are designed to help YOU improve your skills and increase your knowledge in your area of Scouting.  A single day is packed with a year's worth of fun, program ideas, and information - the largest single training event for Scouters in San Diego-Imperial Council!  Open to all Adult Volunteers and Youth Leadership. You MUST register before 5:00pm July 30th. Download the Course Catalog. Register Online now to earn your degree!

Recycling:  Keep saving your cans and bottles and bring them to the Monday meetings.  We have lots of adventures planned for 2022 and the money really helps offset the costs.

Long-term Planning:

Fiesta Island Beach Campout & COH (19-21 August 2022):  The Troop is planning a fun filled, water oriented weekend at Camp Fiesta Island which will include our Court of Honor.  More details will be provided as the date approaches.

Philmont Scout Ranch High Adventure Trek: Our troop won a national lottery for 12 spots at the Philmont Scout Ranch for a 12-day trek on 14-26 June 2023.  The ranch is located near Albuquerque, New Mexico and is BSA's premier high adventure base.  Our specific adventure can be tailored, but will entail a 10-day backpack covering over 50 miles.  Scouts must be 14 years old or 13 years old and completed 8th grade by 14 June 2023.  Adult leaders are also needed.  Cost is $1,490 per person.  Contact Mr. Morgan by 24 January 2022 if you are interested.

Scouts Step Up:  Here is a link to an email sent earlier this week about an AMTRAK train that hit a dump truck.  When I first saw the article, I immediately thought of how the troop recently learned about trains and safety while earning the Railroading Merit Badge.  Then I read about how a Boy Scout and his troop that were on the train returning home after their 10-day backcountry adventure at Philmont Scout Ranch helped rescue passengers and assist first responders.  It is amazing, but not surprising, how the scouts knew what to do and took action.

New Scout Recruiting:  Scouts are needed to man a booth at the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) Community Expo (resource fair) on Saturday, 23 July from 9:00am - 1:00pm.  The booth at the district office is part of a greater effort to provide families with information on district and community resources.  Contact Mr. Morgan if you are interested.

Troop Parent Help Needed:  We are always looking for parents to take and active role in the troop.  There are many areas of need to include fund raising, merit badge counselor, web page design/management, etc.  If you have a little time and a desire to help out, please contact Mr. Morgan, Mr. Bauer or Mr. Plasencia.

Merit Badge Counselors are needed.   As scouting activities reopen, there is a growing need for merit badge counselors.  With over 100 merit badges available, everyone has knowledge and skills that are applicable to at least one subject area.  The following webpage provides an application and information on the requirements and training to become a certified merit badge counselor.  https://www.sdicbsa.org/advancement/MBCounselorApplication.php  Please contact Brent Morgan or Jesus Plasencia if you have any questions.
